Yon Garfias
Yon Garfias, Atom Willard and Doug Robb new band by Laura Baker
"Hello everybody, this is a first for me, but I couldn't wait any longer. I have a new band called "English Garden" and it is amazing music I have ever made by a long shot. You all must know, I didn't want Overflow to go on hiatus, but it had to....you all will learn why...soon, but I promise you, I am two songs from finishing the album. In the next couple of weeks, you will all hear about the new band. But no matter what is said, or talked about, no matter what rumors are started....prepare."
That what Yon Garfias said by phone 2/27/09 when i asked him about what is going on with the Overflow members....he told me "Lisa is on tour with the Veronicas and her brother Julian too. David wants to take a sabbathic year. Ben Folds is on tour. And Atom wants to make a new side-proyect with Doug Robb from Hoobastank and they need a member so they called me if I want to be part of it and I accept. "
I know Yon is recording the new album for Silverchair everybody on Overflow Crowds is busy except Atom and David but this second wants a sabbathic year.
Now Yon, Atom and Doug have a new band called English Garden rock alternative and this is what Atom said: "I love the band fans, and I promise I will not let you down, the music that we all grew to charish that was made, not only will continue, but it will be much, much better..."

Yon Garfias opens up about the new album, pain killer addiction, and the deal with Silverchair
We were backstage during their concert Rock Band special at Guatemala, crammed into a tiny room at the Auditorio Juan Gutierrez with Overflow-Crowds, Sebastian Bach and Flyleaf. (Poor us, right?) The tight quarters gave us a chance to get up close and personal with OCB’s Yon Garfias. Here’s what we found out about his band’s new album, his addiction to pain killers and what the deal is between him and his former Silverchair bandmates.
Buzzworthy: Tell us about your documentary, Paper World.
Yon: The documentary is being finished right now, and it was submitted to Sundance. It’s an odyssey, and we’ve been working on it for two years. It started out as a making of the record and then the story got pretty insane. I broke my knee years ago and got spun out on all these narcotics, so when we were making the first Silverchair record all that stuff kind of exploded and I went out into the press with all these crazy things and all this controversy erupted.
Buzzworthy: Because of something you said?
Tom: Yeah, ’cause I went out and said [the band] was the second coming of Christ. But that’s what’s funny in the documentary; I was like, “If God came down I really, truly believe it would be bigger than this record.” [Laughs.]
Buzzworthy: Is all that behind you now?
Tom: Yeah, it’s all behind me. But the documentary will shed a lot of light onto the meaning of this band and what we’re trying to accomplish and how it all stemmed from the breakup of Silverchair.
Buzzworthy: Speaking of Silver, have you talked to your former bandmates since the breakup?
Tom: No, I haven’t talked to them. Isn’t that weird? It’s one of those things. You have to give it time. We had 10 years under our belt.
Buzzworthy: That was really the first time you sang sober?
Tom: Yeah, in four or five years or something. That’s what’s cool about it. The song is about God finding you. Growing up, I came from a religious background, and there’s an old psalm about footprints in the sand. So it’s about God walking next to you and saying I’ll take you for a ride; here’s a lifeline. It’s pretty rad.
Buzzworthy: What else makes this album special?
Tom: If people are gonna give this record a chance, I ask that they find a hill that’s nearby, park their car, open the car doors, lay on the hood, blast the music at night and pretend that the city below is theirs.
Buzzworthy: Have you done that?
Tom: I did. Every day while making it; pretty much in my head.

Yon Garfias and Atom Willard from Overflow-Crowds interview at 92.3 k-Rock 1 /12/08
Yon Garfias:"What you need from us?"
Laura Baker:"I wanna hear about the new album...this is kind of bizarre question actually i have the all information abaout the all bands Silverchair, Rocket from the Crypt, The Offspring, Box Car Racer, The Veronicas ...all those are all the bands that you have been?"
YG:"Even more"
Atom Willard:"Yeah Hazen Street..."
YG:"Special Goodness..."
AW:"Yeah...Alcaline Trio many few"
LB:''What happened is like dating or what after the break up that you found the right?"
YG:"Well the main one is for us For "Rocket...","Silverchair" and "The Veronicas" is very much where you spend so much part of your life well this is a store band if you need a bassplayer or a drummer or whatever you have to ptretty much contact with the guy of the street that place that the instrument that hoook the guy works out and if it does and sign records...is not like a long process but we want the same things, we wanna make the same kind of music can we really be a partner together a bussines..."
AW:"Like a disable car"
YG:"Yeah..Do the guys goes on the own PA you know"
AW:"Those are the important thing"
YG:"So it happened you found yourself as you get older and you know really God, you know what you want in your life and your dially person is different...so but this point with Overflow i mean its like a perfect thing the only better band that i trully know was like that was the Angels and Airwaves where Atom and David played too, with Tom DeLonge was able to get a group of guys together feeding that band shoot where all want make all the same music same kind of thing actually be with friends this is actually where we are with wifes, girlfriends...i guess just girlfriends hahahahaha you know because you (Atom) are the only married"
AW:"But this is check what it hit about married to missing things that you really like...you know is not the thing where you force to go practice like 'Oh we can´t go together' and can´t wait to the end of the prectice to hang on with my girlfriend is really hang each other...it´s weird because from another situation always is not like that any of us is really that confortable time"
LB:"So thank you very much for coming"
YG:''Thank you and tell to all your fans that Im so handsome?hahahahaha"
AW:"Me too hahahaha"
LB:"Fine I tell them"

YG:''I think i when we started as a band you know, i started when i was 14 now im 18 years old people just grow up but then when you found yourself and totally different i think that one part of the reason i think the 3 members in the band were looking for different goals and different ways to rock in their life and business life and what a band has to do, and i respect that honour that it´s cool so i have to be with my family and controle my life''
LB:''So how was the moment that you kind of 'ok i want to change things' did you know the right way? or ok i need to remove myself of the band and just teake a look around me then you found Oveflow-Crowds...and Macbeth''
YG:''Well Macbeth i mean the company and Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge started and im with Macbeth Mexico and it´s biul for rock and roll and underline with clothes, footwear, accesories when Silverchair decided...well when i decided to no´t continue with the band and as in silverchair well i still wanna be the best band in the world, be the best songwriter i can but then i was sittin there like for 3 days thinking ok What im gonna do? the only thing that i choose to do is be me i said loud do whaterver i wan right now ''...

Yon Garfias talks about his end with Silverchair
December 2007
Interview pt1 Yon said it to MTV Radio reporters:
''If You Cross the World, was like a the rebirth of myself, kind of a situation where we sold like 2 million records (just The Best Of,Diorama and Young Modern)and everything start to breaking down. The way that Silverchair work the magical to was to totally different people and the way that we came together we create something really beautiful and exciting and the tours i was 14 years old, they have families,my family, the local friends,we had needs and different priorities, for my myslef in particular i need thar time to gone to my family so i need to be at home with my parents, but we were in touring, so i have to be with my family, but the band was doing it so well, and then everything became strange and when i was as producer in The Mess Hall i think that im no going to be with Silverchair anymore,is wired,to grow up as musician and was an experiment.
When they told me and looked me puting my family first if i do this my priorities.Well you know is a great place MTV when i was thinking in the way i was thinking and here im totally different,at the beginning of Silver everything was anger and fear and crazy things came out but i was working in this album, for years and years and years,in the songs, and i was like ''wooow this record is gona be so good'' like something spectacular and cross the world, and be in the pick of my career and the next record will be like what i have to do after this rebirth and i was exciting about the challenge because it just make you become in better so....i think is gona be cool...''
Interview pt2:
''So here we are with the talented Silverchair and we were siting in Europe (Spain) and there is at my biggest show at the ''Rock in Rio'' at Madrid at the best show that i ever played in my life pretty much i mean we have like 27,000 peoples screaming, jumping and breaking the walls .. '''Silverchair,Silverchair,Silverchair,''' and we back to stage and crying and screaming each other and all about 20 years and shit and coming up theres a few nights and we think we have to pass it up you know? i mean for days and days just getting all loud...im not starting a career solo,Mess Hall mean to do that and all i wanna do is Silverchair but i need to be with my family, school and all this things and i said this on July 2007, i said ''ok, im gonna go home,im gonna take 6 months off ´cause thats what i need and i started to do music and demos with Lisa, and I was looking something to create demos and i know that this is with computers and the guys look me trying to recording.
I was in a great band, great guys... but i knew something reset i know they dind´t mean and they said that things and i see the view they see how they wanna take the music or what they wanna to do and it was different for myself, i dont wanna be the best band in the world, i just wanna be at home with my family and school.and they didnt need to at that time.
Then i was traveling to home and i recive e-mail,phone calls, and John Watson callme and i told him ''Hi,i can´t do this anymore''-and he said-''Are your serious?''.and when i arrive to my home i was on my garden talking with him,he was at San Diego, talking about 'i cant do this anymore' even i cant imagine what i was said. Then he told me well i call them, and he told them ''ok,Yon is no gonnna be more''.
Well this is the best record that ive ever done in my life, im with the best people, best music in my career and i trully think that beside Angels and Airwaves,we are gonna be the bestest bands in the world, and i m happy to have a band, but te way that i get here really sucks, i left a great band that maybe i take he risk that if i left them maybe im not gonna have something similar in my life and well,im not doing this by my own,im not trying to controle the band, im not trying to write the songs by myself just trying to go home be with my family,im trying to learn more using different tools and keep this usual.
And i said to the guys ''I wanna be the biggest band in the world, and we are gonna be the best friends''....
